Dorothy Ellen Swan, 86, passed away on June 30, 2018 at her home on Beaver Lake. She was born Feb. 15, 1932 in Panama, Okla. to Eugene and Lila (Hobbs) Ward. Dorothy grew up and attended school in Keota, Okla. She went to work for Southwestern Bell in Tulsa, Okla., where she held various positions until her retirement in 1982. Afterwards, Dorothy and her husband John moved to Beaver Lake in Rogers, Ark., to start their retirement lives together. After moving to the lake, Dorothy started turning their weekend cabin into a welcoming full-time home. She designed her own kitchen and bay windows to make it their own. She loved sitting on the back deck, drinking coffee and watching the wildlife. She usually had the best garden on the hill. Dorothy loved to go fishing early in the morning, then bring her catch home and cook it up. She was always there to step up and help anyone who needed it. More than anything, she loved her family, especially her grandkids and great-grandkids. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; son, Darrell Herrington; and brothers, Phillip, James, Bill, and John Ward. She is survived by her husband, John Swan; son, Ron Herrington (Mary) of Tulsa, Okla.; daughters, Diane Dupree (Jesse) of Broken Arrow, Okla., Cheryl Swan (Pete Meyers) of Tulsa, Okla.; brothers, Tom and Elbert Ward; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, July 5, at Rollins Funeral Home in Rogers. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, or to an animal rescue of your choice.
