Eva Claire Bryant Whatley, 92, of El Dorado, passed from this life on Monday, January 22, 2018. She was born December 8th, 1925, to Porter Bryant and Quince Phillips Bryant in El Dorado.
Claire, or Mony, as she was lovingly called by her grandchildren and many others, was a lifelong seeker of knowledge and a history teacher at El Dorado High for over 20 years. She graduated Magna Cum Laude from North Texas State University. After college she moved to Washington D.C. and worked for the State Department as a foreign language translator. She started her family back in her hometown and was a founding member of St. Paul United Methodist Church.
She is preceded in death by her mother and father, her brother, Dr. Phillip Bryant and her two sisters, Dorothy (Dottie) Johnston, and Ann (Tica) Bryant Foster. Claire is survived by her three daughters, Susan Whatley, Ellen Parker (Terry) and Carol Shoup (Steve). She had an extremely close relationship with her eight grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. She was also beloved by all her nieces and nephews.
She had a love of history and politics and was an occasional "Letter to the Editor" writer. Always the patriot, she loved her country. To everyone she ever met, it was obvious that she was a true follower of her Lord, and loved her fellow man.
