Susan L. Shumate, 73, passed away on November 30, 2017 at Circle of Life Hospice Home at Legacy Village in Bentonville, Arkansas She was the oldest of four, born on January 28, 1944 in Los Angeles, California to Carl Moore and Marilyn Myers. Susan was the loving and devoted wife of Robert (Bob) Shumate for 56 years. They met, fell in love, and married while still in high school. They eventually made their home in Rogers to raise their family. She was an outstanding USBC bowler and the friendships she made while participating in bowling tournaments all over the United States were unsurmountable. She was a proud member of the Rogers Elks Lodge 2144. She would always look forward to the monthly luncheons with her fellow Lady Elks as well as the fun Wednesday night Darts of Hazard with all of her fellow Elks. Some of her most memorable years were spent in Merritt Island, Florida near beaches and watching rocket launches while sitting on the rooftop of her home with her husband and two children. After moving to Rogers, having snowball fights in July became another favorite of hers when she would go to the freezer and pull out her carefully saved snowballs from winter. She has been a Los Angeles Dodgers fan all her life but briefly thought about changing after they lost the World Series this past year. However, her heart remained true to them in the end. She had a beautiful smile that could brighten any room and was never afraid to speak her mind or pull you in close with kindness. She will be missed but we have been blessed to have had her in our lives. Now, when the sun shines bright and the day is hot we will think of snow, and fun, and her, forever in our hearts. Susan was preceded in death by her father, Carl Moore, brother, Rick Moore, and daughter, Debbie Timmerman. She is survived by her mother, Marilyn Myers of California, one sister, Patti Kipper of California, one brother, Carl (Cappi)Moore, her son, Ronald Alan Shumate and wife, Gina of Fayetteville; grandchildren, Alicia Wade of Seattle, Washington, Kendra Madewell and her husband, Ethan of Rogers; Brett Shumate of Fayetteville, Tera Timmerman of Ohio, and several great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends on Saturday, January 27, from 1 until 3 p.m. at the Rollins Funeral Home, in Rogers, Arkansas. Instead of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in both Bob and Susan's name to the Elks Red Pig Fund, 501 S 40th Street, Rogers, Ark. 72758. This helps fund five Adult Development Centers in Arkansas.
