Verlin G. Holmstrom

On January 20th Verlin G. Holmstrom departed this world after a 14-year brave battle with Alzheimer's that stole his memory but not his will or personality. Born September 30, 1926 in Hastings, Minnesota, sixth child, first son to Gustave and Ida. Graduating from Hastings High, summoned by the Army to basic training at Fort McCellan, Alabama. Sailed on a troop ship for duty to Furstenfeldburk Base, Germany. Transferring to the US Air Force he served at many bases, including Bien Hoa, Vietnam, retiring at 30 years in 1975 in Duluth, Minn. He joined the IRS, retiring 15 years later. Preceded in death by parents; sisters, Linea Pajerski, Lucille Pike, and Clarice Valois; brothers, Kenneth and Paul. Survived by his wife Jenny; daughter Katherine Busche (Todd), Bella Vista; son, Steven Holmstrom (Laura), Duluth, Minn.; grandchildren, Sarah (Sam) Booth, Denver, Colo., and Kelly (Gabe) Donatell, Flagstaff, Arizona; four great grandsons, Cooper, Brooks, Evan and Owen; and many nieces, nephews, and their children. Family is grateful for the wonderful care Verlin received at the Arkansas Veteran's Home, Fayetteville; his care at Northwest Hospital, Springdale; and that given by Circle of Life in Springdale and Bentonville. Funeral mass will be held January 25th at St Stephen's Catholic Church, Bentonville, Ark. at 11 a.m., with visitation at 10 a.m. Memorials may be made to the Arkansas Veterans Home of Fayetteville, Circle of Life, or to St Stephen's Catholic Church, Bentonville.
