Ronald James Johns, age 75, of Winslow passed away on Thursday April 12, 2018 in Centerton, Ark. He was born on September 11, 1942, in Wichita, Kan., to Ava Johns and Hazel (Courtney) Johns. His residence since 1983 was rural Winslow, Ark. He is survived by a son DJ DuBose, a granddaughter Evlin Jennifer DuBose, and a grandson James Michael DuBose, all of Austin, Texas. Ronald is also survived by a sister Marcia Lorraine Johns, and a brother Buddy Ava Johns, Jr., both of Wichita, Kan. In 1965, Ronald married Patricia Jean Michael. They had one child, a son DJ. Ronald graduated from Wichita State University with degrees in English and mathematics. He also earned a master's degree in English. He earned a PhD (ABD) degree in English from the University of Oklahoma. He taught at the University of Oklahoma, and at Kansas State University. He was for many years a talented stone mason and was skilled in construction. He played guitar and loved music, and he was proud of his athletic ability. Ron was deeply loved by his family and friends, and he will be greatly missed. Visitation will be 2-3 p.m. Monday April 16, 2018, at First Baptist Church in Winslow, with the funeral service to follow at 3 p.m. under the direction of Moore's Chapel.
