Phillip L. Mhoon

Phillip L. Mhoon of Bremerton, Washington passed away May 18, 2017. He was born December 28, 1935 in Fayetteville, Arkansas, the son of Gordon Mhoon, and Ilah Todd Mhoon. He graduated from Fayetteville High School in 1954, and attended the University of Arkansas, where he was a member of the Kappa Sigma fraternity. He married Sharon Ingram in 1958, and they had one son, Jeffery Todd Mhoon. Phillip's lifelong love of boating began when he joined the Naval Reserve during his senior year in high school, and he served the US Navy proudly for twenty years, retiring from active duty with the rank of Lieutenant Commander in 1974. He then went on to civil service work at the Naval Undersea Warfare Center, in Keyport, Washington, where he was instrumental to the development of the Tomahawk Missile Systems. After retiring in 2005, he was able to fully indulge his passion for books and reading, and cruising the high seas with his son and their families in their boat, the LUNA III. Phillip was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Sharon, his son, Jeff Mhoon and wife Heather, of Silverdale, Wash., two grandsons, Dominic and Andrew Cromett, of Silverdale, a sister, Shirley Blackston (Jim), of Fayetteville, Ark., a brother, Roger Mhoon (Peggy), of Springfield, Mo., a brother, Shane Mhoon (Kayla), of Fayetteville, as well as several nieces, nephews, extended family and friends, who will miss his wit and sense of adventure. Arrangements are by Tuell McKee Funeral Home. At Phil's request, there will be no service, but his family will spread his ashes in the waters of the San Juan Islands, one of his favorite vacation spots.
