Vicky Sloan, a longtime resident of the Fayetteville area, passed away on December 27th at her son's home in Denver, Colorado. Born in 1950 in Houston, Texas, Vicky along with the rest of her family moved to Springdale in the early 1960s. Vicky received both her Bachelors and Masters degrees from the University of Arkansas. With those in tow, she set off to spend the next 28 years teaching, guiding, and mentoring young minds at Fayetteville High School. She was never more proud than when the AP History scores of her students would come rolling in and, year after year, their scores would be the highest in the state. Vicky was always quick with the wit, enjoying an easy give and take with her students, family, and friends. When pushed, however, she was never afraid to stand up against perceived injustices against the people and causes that she cared about. Vicky is survived by her brother, Bill Smith, of Springdale, her son, Drew Sloan, her daughter-in-law, Alicia Sloan, and her granddaughters, Sagely and Mirabelle Sloan, all of Denver, Colorado. Her beloved dogs, Sunny and Sassy, will remain together and have already found a loving new home. There will be a memorial service held at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Fayetteville on Saturday, January 28th at 11 a.m. If desired, floral arrangements can be sent to the church or, in lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Uncompensated Care Program at MD Anderson in Houston, Texas. Also, should you wish to leave a written memorial to Vicky, you can visit www.vickysloan.com. They will be collected and saved so that her granddaughters may know what a wonderful grandmother they had.
