John Franklin Day, 91, of Bella Vista, Ark. died Dec. 23. 2017 at Concordia Nursing & Rehab, Bella Vista. He was born Nov. 24, 1926 in Long Beach, Calif. to Glenn and Francis Day. John served in the U.S. Merchant Marines/Coast Guard from 1944 to 1946 and was active status in the Army Reserves 1950-1953. After several years working in southern California, John accepted employment in Fresno, Calif. as a Tax Rep with the California State Board of Equalization in 1958 and retired in 1987 as Principal District Tax Compliance Supervisor. John and his wife, June both retired in 1987 and moved to Bella Vista to be near family. They enjoyed many years of retirement, traveling, fishing, golfing, dancing and wintering in Florida at Lily Lake Golf Resort, Frostproof. John was active in the Bella Vista Nomad Shrine Club for many years and also was a member of the Bella Vista Fly Tyers and the Elks Lodge. John is survived by his wife of 56 years, June Day; daughter, Pamela (David) Graham of Cassville, Mo.; granddaughters, Rayna (Alex) Woolbright and Krista (John) Healy; and great granddaughter, Kennedy June Healy; sister, Kathy (Paul) Borchard; brother, Jim (Gretchen) McCann and numerous extended family and friends. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, January 4, 2018 at the Bella Vista Community Church. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or Concordia Nursing & Rehab. Special thanks to the Concordia staff for seven years of wonderful, loving care during John's struggle with Alzheimer's disease. Arrangements are by Bella Vista Funeral Home & Crematory.
