Vera Carolyn Kohls passed peacefully on Friday afternoon at Circle of Life Hospice House, Dec. 22, 2017, surrounded by her loving family after a thankfully short battle with lung cancer. Vera is survived by her husband Richard Kohls, her daughter Cathy Culler (Joe) of Austin, Texas, and three sons Mark Kohls (Shaunda) of Nashville, Tenn., Tom Kohls (Kelly) of Clarksville, Ohio, and Mike Kohls (Donna) of Lubbock, Texas, as well as 16 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and six siblings. Her children remember her as the best mom ever, a very loving, selfless, and strong woman. Vera was born in Wellington, Kan., on Dec., 19, 1936 to Anna (Rohling) and Anthony Weber. She married Richard Kohls, USAF, of Grimes, Iowa, on April 21, 1956. During their 22-year Air Force career, they travelled all over the United States and the Azores islands, Portugal, where they were stationed for nine years. After retiring from the Air Force, they settled in Omaha, NE for 23 years. In 1994, they relocated to Bella Vista, Ark., where they joined St. Bernard's Catholic Church where Vera was very involved, and active in the Women's Group. Vera's firm belief in God guided her throughout her life. She was a very strong woman who never met a stranger, welcoming everyone with open arms. Vera was also a very intellectually curious woman who enjoyed exploring the science of alternative medicines and the challenge of uncovering novel investments. She also enjoyed many of the simpler things in life such as beautiful flowers and singing. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 28th at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Bella Vista. Memorials may be made to: Circle of Life Hospice, nwacircleoflife.com.
