Gary Wayne Rakes Sr.

Gary Wayne Rakes Sr. (Mus), died peacefully at his home surrounded by family on March 18, 2016 at 12:15 p.m. at the age of 66. Gary was born August 22, 1949 in Bentonville, Arkansas to the late Harral and Betty Rakes. Gary was preceded in death by his mother, father and brother, John Rakes. He is survived by his wife, Sharon of 48 years; a son, Gary Wayne Rakes Jr. and wife, Brandi; a daughter, Kristen Hime and her husband, Robert Hime; three grandchildren, Julie Hime, Ilah Rakes and Mason Hime; one great-grandchild, Casyn Hime; he is also survived by one brother, Kenny Rakes; one sister, Mona Kincannon and husband, Bill Kincannon; and five nephews, Kevin Rakes, Kendale Rakes, Shawn McBride, Steve Ridenoure and Doug Stanberry; one niece, Rachel Center; and close family friend, John Hutton, who Gary thought of as a second son. Gary was a family man, devoted husband and father to his two children. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and golfing. He was loved by many and will be deeply missed. Gary was a Master Electrician influenced by his late uncle, Bert Rakes. Gary went on to become a partner with Tom Campbell at Merit Electric where he later became sole owner with his son, Gary Jr. Later, Gary and his son became Rakes Electric. The Campbell family were considered family to Gary and they remained in contact until his death. He was a member of the National Turkey Federation, Bella Vista Country Club, Stonebridge Golf Club and many hunting and fishing groups. Visitation will be at Beard's Funeral Chapel in Fayetteville, Ark., 855 S. Happy Hollow Rd., Tuesday, March 22, 2016 from 5-7 p.m. His service will be Wednesday, March 23, 2016 at 2 p.m. Reverend Jasper Hankins will be performing the service and brother- in-law, Clif Chitwood will be presenting the eulogy. Pallbearers are Robert Hime, Kevin Rakes, Kendale Rakes, Clif Chitwood, Bill Kincannon, Kenneth Center, Shawn McBride, Doug Stanberry, Charles Ridenoure and Steve Ridenoure. Honorary pallbearers are Darrell Vanbrunt, John Hutton, Loy Vanbrunt, Tyler Johnson, Josh Carroll, Mike Carrol, Leon Drain, Bradley Rice and Dennis Perkins.
