Betty Jean Sherrid

Betty Jean Sherrid, 74, passed away peacefully in her home in West Fork, Ark. on March 17, 2016. She was born Feb. 19, 1942 in Dodge City, Kan. Betty married her late husband when she was 15 1/2. From a young age, she developed and thrived in the role of wife, mother and grandmother. This is the role she was best at, and what she will be most remembered for. She was a hard worker and would do anything to provide for her family. Her favorite job was at a restaurant called The Hitchin' Post in Dodge City. She loved animals so much that if any stray came along, they'd have a new home. Her favorite stories were of her and her late husband, LeRoy's midnight rides on their Honda 750. One time she was riding and the throttle got stuck causing her to ride a wheelie for two blocks. She was one of the funniest, stubborn, orneriest people you would meet. She was passionate in what she believed in and the strongest woman her family has ever known. She was as outspoken as they come. The word that best describes her is "spitfire." She will be greatly missed. Betty joined her parents, Fred Brock and Ada Watkins; husband, LeRoy Sherrid; and daughter, Lisa Gail Fairbanks when she went home to be with our Lord. She is survived by her daughter, Tammy Sue Fernandez; her eight grandchildren: Michael, Stephanie, Brandon, Tristen, Brandi, Jarrod, Chelsie and Kelsie; as well as five great-grandchildren, Devin, Breonna, Alivia, Kylee and Evalyn. Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Tuesday, March 22, 2016 at Beard's Chapel with Reverend Jim Huffman officiating. Interment will follow in the Brentwood Cemetery under the direction of Beard's Chapel. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. on Monday, March 21, 2016 at Beard's Chapel.
