Richard Karl Horne, 90, of Bentonville, passed away in his home on Wednesday, November 18, 2015. He was born December 23, 1924, in Manhattan, New York to Karl and Sarah Rich Horne and grew up in Valley Stream, New York. Dick served in the United States Marine Corps in the Pacific Theater during WW II. He was shipboard in Tokyo Bay at the signing of the Japanese surrender. He went to college at the end of the war and graduated from Worcester Polytechnic Institute as a mechanical engineer in 1948. Dick worked for most of his career as a field engineer for Cincinnati Milacron Company. He married Joyce Mackay in 1948. They had two children, Pam and John, and she passed away in 1973. Dick married Elizabeth Clark Wiegman in 1974 and since his retirement they have lived in Northwest Arkansas for 26 years, most recently in Legacy Village in Bentonville. Dick's deep Christian faith was the foundation of his life and he was a dedicated student of the Bible. He was an active volunteer in the Presbyterian churches he attended, serving as an Elder, church officer, teacher, and committee chairman. Dick was a member of Kiwanis, VFW Honor Guard, an Eagle Scout, Scout Leader, and mentor to several younger men. Dick had a strong love for the outdoors and made several wilderness camping and canoe trips and loved to fish. He was an avid bird watcher and a gifted needlepoint artist. Everyone who knew Dick was blessed by his quick wit, puns, and large repertoire of jokes to fit any situation. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth, his children: Pamela Horne Barry (Roger), John Mackay Horne, Sherry Wiegman Arrick (Doug), Joy Wiegman Boruff (Chet), Clark Houck Wiegman (Julie), his grandchildren: Devin Barry, Alex Barry, Gracie Horne, Bruce Arrick, Megan Arrick, Kellyn Arrick Dingle (Devin), Scott Boruff (Amanda), Amy Boruff Dziewiontkoski (Eric), Nate Wiegman, Ella Wiegman, one cousin, Patricia Horne Syvanen, and many loving friends and relatives. Dick is preceded in death by his parents, first wife, (Joyce), and grand-daughter Marie Kathern Arrick. Service on Saturday, November 21, at 2 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church of Bentonville, conducted by the Reverend Katie Cummings and Reverend Georgia Senor.
