Marvin Dale Bixby

Marvin Dale Bixby, age 82, of Tontitown, died Tuesday, November 17, 2015 in Fayetteville. He was born March 31, 1933 in Chana, Illinois, the son of Fred Eugene and Christina M. Ludwig Bixby. He was preceded in death by a son, Gary Eugene Bixby; a daughter, Linda Christine Bixby Vandagriff and a brother, Harold Eugene Ebens. He was a retired Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Air Force. He served 22 years, was a Command Pilot with nearly 8000 hours, including over 2500 combat and combat support hours, primarily in the C-130. He received many awards, including the Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal with ten oak leaf clusters, Air Force Commendation Medal with one oak leaf cluster, and the Viet Nam Service Medal with six service stars. He earned a BSBA with high honors at the University of Arkansas in 1985 and retired as an accountant at Kawneer in Springdale in 1994. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn E. Byers Bixby; a son, Paul W. Bixby and wife Frankie; a sister, Joan Bixby Stage of Rock Falls, Illinois; a sister-in-law, Edith Ebens of Oregon, Illinois; five grandchildren, Brandy Bronson, Dustin Bronson and wife Amy, Matthew Vandagriff and wife Krissi, Jacob Vandagriff and Savannah Bixby; his guardian angel, niece Kathleen Byers; six great-grandchildren; and many other special nieces and nephews. Visitation will be 12:30-1:30 p.m., Monday, November 23, 2015 at Moore's Chapel with a graveside service to follow at 2 p.m. at the Fayetteville National Cemetery.
