Albert Wayne Wood, 77, of Pea Ridge, Ark. went to be with the Lord Saturday evening, Nov. 7th, 2015.Wayne was born in Sioux City, Iowa in 1937. After graduating high school, Wayne joined the U.S. Navy in January, 1956. After graduating Navy boot camp in Great Lakes, Ill., he married Dixie June Seaman on April 19th, 1956. He began his Naval career as enlisted man; worked his way up through the ranks with the NCO's. He was an Aviation Ordnance man, and served on several ships including the USS Randolph CV-15, USS Intrepid CV-11, USS Independence CV-62, USS Forrestal CV-59, and the USS Kennedy CV-67 and various shore duty stations along the way, among others. He went to Officers School in Pensacola, Fla. and graduated in 1969. After 23 years of service he retired from the Navy as a Lieutenant. Wayne, his wife Dixie, and three of their five children moved to Pea Ridge Arkansas in 1978 where he began a new career working at Stone Container in Rogers, AR. During his tenor at Stone, he became a staple of the Pea Ridge community by head coaching several T-Ball, Little League, All Star, and; as an assistant coach, Pea Ridge High School baseball teams for 20 plus years. After 20 years at Stone, he retired again. After his second retirement, Wayne enjoyed doing several things, but mostly fishing. He and his wife Dixie traveled the United States in their RV visiting friends and relatives from Florida to Texas before settling down in Pea Ridge, Ark. for good in 2012. Wayne is preceded in death by his mother and father, Edgar and Ila Wood of Pea Ridge, and his brother, Clarence Wood. Wayne is survived by his wife, Dixie of the home; four sons. Bob Wood and wife Mary of Pea Ridge, Ark., Doug Wood of Bradenton, Fla., Bill Wood of Jane, Mo., Cliff Wood and wife Kassondra of Pea Ridge, Ark.; a daughter, Cindy Snow and husband Curtis of Pea Ridge, Ark., a brother, Roger Wood of Wayne, Idaho; 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Memorial service is set for 2 p.m Thursday, November 12 at First Baptist Church in Pea Ridge. Arrangements are by Sisco Funeral Home in Pea Ridge. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. The family wishes that any donations will go to the Wood-Hall VFW Post 8109. Online condolences may be made at siscofuneralhome.net.
