James (Jim) William Murphy

Mr. James (Jim) William Murphy, age 80, of Cookeville, passed away peacefully and surrounded by his loving family at his home Tuesday, December 15, 2015 in Cookeville Tennessee. Jim was born July 14, 1935 in Greenwood Arkansas to the late Vina Smith Murphy and Mont. S. Murphy. Jim taught printing for 26 years at Fayetteville High School West Campus in Arkansas. He also retired as a Sergeant Major in the Arkansas National Guard after 26 years of service. Jim always enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing, and traveling to watch the Arkansas Razorback Track Team. Mr. Murphy is survived by his wife of 61 years, Shirley Geren Murphy of Cookeville Tennessee, three daughters; Sharon (husband Sam) Williams of Ogden, Utah, Marcia (husband Tom) Childers of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, and Susan (husband Todd) Harris of Hermitage, Tennessee, granddaughters, Brooke Peterson and Jill Farrell and grandsons, Ben Williams, Matthew Williams and Chris Childers. In addition, Jim is survived by one sister, Bernice Stewart of Fort Smith, Arkansas and nephew Mike Stewart of Overland Park, Kansas, sister-in-law, and brother-in-law,Bebe and Orville Crowell of Cookeville and a sister-in-law Nancy Fountain of Cookeville. He is also survived by six nephews as well as six step-grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by a brother, J.B. Murphy, a niece Lana Kay Swanson, and three brothers-in-law, E.C. Stewart, Dave Fountain and Jack Geren. Jim will be laid to rest at a private graveside service in Greenwood, Arkansas. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Avalon Hospice of Cookeville.
