Madonna Elaine Hoelscher, 90, passed away Friday, November 27, 2015, at St. Bernard's Medical Center, Jonesboro. She was born May 15, 1925, in Jonesboro to Mathias (Matthew) and Genevieve Thennes. She graduated at the top of her class from Pocahontas High School and then St. Vincent's Nursing School in Little Rock. During her career as a nurse she worked tirelessly to improve the public health of Arkansans. She was preceded in death by husband James E. Hoelscher, son Edward, her parents, six brothers: Matthew Clemons, Jacob (JL), Matthew (Junior), Joe (Colonel), Mike, John (Pat) and five sisters: Genevieve Baltz, Ula DeClerk, Mercedes Ryan, Vera and Clementine Thennes. She is survived by her sister, Clara Price, Lawrence, Kan., daughter, Linda (Jim) Sanders, Jones, Okla., son James, Fayetteville, son Joe (Lorri), Baldwin City, Kan., daughter, Betty (Elizabeth), Owego, N.Y., five grandchildren: Dr Jason Sanders M.D., Okla., Catherine Williams, Okla., Leah Hoelscher, Kan., Noah Hoelscher, Kan., Eli Hoelscher, Kan., and four great-grandchildren: Natalie Nixon, Okla., Brian Williams, Okla., Will Sanders, Okla., and Luke Sanders, Okla. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday, December 1, 2015 and Rosery immediately following at 7 p.m. at McNabb Funeral Home. Funeral mass will be at 11 a.m. at St. Paul's Catholic Church on Wednesday, December 2, 2015. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to St. Paul's Catholic Church Parish Life Center fund.
