Martha Jo Hooten

Martha Jo Hooten, 85, of Springdale, Ark., passed away Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2014, at the Willard Walker Hospice Home in Fayetteville, Ark. Martha was born on Dec. 20, 1928, in Gregory, Ark., a daughter of Calvin Baker and Myrtie Eula (White) Baker. She worked as a bookkeeper at the Hooten Equipment Company in Springdale, Ark. She was member of the Robinson Avenue Church of Christ in Springdale, Ark., for 50 years and best known for her fried pies. She is survived by her son, Bill Hooten and wife, Malia, of Prairie Grove, Ark.; a daughter, Christye Hudson and husband, Danny, of Fayetteville, Ark.; five grandchildren, Josh Hooten and wife, Patty, of Fayetteville, Ark., Courtnee Chapman and husband, Yancy, of Lincoln, Ark., Gatlin Hooten and fiance, Rachel Smith, of Farmington, Ark., Kellby Hudson and Blakeley Hudson, both of Fayetteville, Ark.; four great-grandchildren, Meredith Smith, Kade Rankin, Brooklyn Chapman and Gunner Hooten; two brothers, Jerry Baker and wife, Bobbie, of Fort Smith, Ark., and Darrell Baker and wife, Ricie, of Texarkana, Ark.; one sister, Claudine Cranford and husband, Charles, of Beebe, Ark.; and a host of nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Jay Hooten; three brothers, Ross Baker, Calvin Baker and Bob Baker; and one sister, Gayle Edwards. Visitation will be held at the Backstrom-Pyeatte Chapel in Springdale on Sunday, Nov. 9, 2014, from 3 to 5 p.m. Graveside service will be held at the Bluff Cemetery at 10 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 10, 2014, with Bill Hooten and Harry Fitzgerald to officiate the service.
