Coy Wayne Durning, 89, died at his home early morning on June 14, 2014. Born on April 1, 1925, in Cass, Ark., he was the son of Elias Nathaniel and Lilly Samantha (Harris) Durning. He spent his early youth in Denning, Franklin County, Ark. When he was a teenager, he moved with his family to Fayetteville and, except for a few years as a solider, lived there the rest of his life. Coy served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was stationed in Saipan. He was a member of the Central Christian Church, whose fellowship he greatly enjoyed. Also, he was a lifelong fan of baseball and began rooting for the St. Louis Cardinals when he was a youngster. Coy was the youngest of a large family, and he was preceded in death by four brothers, Claude, Roy, Troy and Bill, and five sisters, Mrs. Stella Broccard, Mrs. Rhetha Haskins, Mrs. Vera Timbrook, Mrs. Ruth Downing, and Mrs. Norma Daniel. He is survived by his wife, Bernice, to whom he was married for 67 years, and his son Danny, of Birch Bay, Washington. Other survivors include several nieces and nephews. Graveside service will be held Tuesday 2 p.m. June 17, 2014, at Elm Springs Cemetery in Elm Springs, Ark. To sign the online guest book, visit www.nelsonberna.com.
