Richard Summers Hartzell

Richard Summers Hartzell of Bella Vista, Ark., died June 13, 2014, at Legacy Circle of Life Hospice. He was born on Nov. 12, 1927, in Boulder, Colo., to the late Wylie W. Hartzell and Vera Summers Hartzell. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. He earned his bachelor's and master's degrees from Drake University and worked in the steel industry for 30 years, retiring from Pittsburg Des Moines Steel in Pittsburg as National Director of Planning and Scheduling. He married Jean Bergquist at the First United Methodist Church in Albia, Iowa. He is survived by his wife of Bella Vista; son, Richard B. (Annette) and grandchildren, Lauren and twins Kristen and Richard of Overland Park, Kan.; sisters-in-law, Grace Hartzell of Claremore, Okla., and Linda Bergquist of Iowa City, Iowa. He was preceded in death by brothers, James and Jack. Graveside services will be held at a later date in Iowa. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's or Kidney Foundations.
