Scotty Dale Douthit Sr., 67, of Russellville died Saturday, May 31, 2014, at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. The son of Johnie Douthit and Helen Scott Wilkins, he was born July 11, 1946, in Springdale. He was a 1964 graduate of Springdale High School, and attended Arkansas Polytechnic College, the University of Arkansas and Riverside Flying School in Tulsa, Okla. He was vice president of Woodline Motor Freight in Russellville for 20 years and founded Scotty's Storage Trailer Rentals Inc. in Russellville in 1996. He was a past president of the Arkansas Transit Association. As a young man, he was a sprinter, a pilot, a boxer, a skydiver and a bull rider. His interests and activities revolved around the hobbies of his family. He and his son, Dale, especially enjoyed collecting antiques, including cars, trucks and motorcycles. A wise and generous man, he lived life as he loved, always giving more than he took. He was a member of Central Presbyterian Church. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Henderson and Maudie Scott; and his beloved first wife, Linda Buchanan Douthit. He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Gretchen Van Kleef Douthit, Russellville; son and daughter-in-law, Judge Scotty Dale Douthit Jr. and Tracy Moncrief Douthit, Russellville; grandson, Scotty Dale Douthit III, Russellville; his father and stepmother, Johnie and Betty Douthit; his mother, Helen M. Wilkins; two half-brothers, Sean W. Wilkins, Dennis E. Cordes. Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 5, 2014, at Central Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Brian Brock and the Rev. Nancy DeForest will officiate. A graveside service will be held at 4 p.m. that afternoon at Bellwood Cemetery in Pine Bluff by Humphrey Funeral Service. Pallbearers are Dr. Robert Thurlby, Kenneth Warren, Rick Harrell, Scott Hill, Nelson Buchanan, C.L. Davis and "Doc" Harris. Honorary pallbearers are all of his golf buddies. The family wishes to extend a special invitation for friends to join them for a fellowship meal immediately following the service at Central Presbyterian Church.
