Ralph P. Carter

Ralph P. Carter, 88, of Bella Vista died Sept. 15, 2013, in Bentonville, Ark. He was born in the Chicago area. Ralph attended CVS Tech High School. He joined the Army and fought in WW2 as a member of the 130th engineering regiment. After the war, he worked for the Pullman Rail Car Co., as a designer. He continued as a designer at Argonne National Laboratory. At Argonne, he evolved into the position of director for the Energy/Environmental Research Division, where he retired in 1987. As a side, he designed homes and commercial buildings. Early on, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, golf, handball and racquetball; everywhere he lived he was involved in, or participated, as a volunteer firefighter. He was the pioneer of the Highlands Methodist columbarium. Later in life he loved to play bridge. He was an active member of the community and the Highlands Methodist Church. His engaging smile and active mind will be missed by all who were lucky enough to know him. Preceded in death by his wife, Patricia, of 56 years. He is survived by his three sons, David, Dale and Dean, their wives and children; and his current wife, Dorothy. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 19, 2013, at Highlands Methodist Church, Bella Vista, Ark. Arrangements are by the Bella Vista Funeral Home & Crematory, 2258 Forest Hills Blvd., Bella Vista, Ark. Donations may be made to Highlands Methodist Church Columbarium Fund.
