Lonnie J. Nelson

Rev. Lonnie J. Nelson, 84, of Siloam Springs, Ark., died Sept. 12, 2013 in Fayetteville, Ark. Born July 27, 1929, in Alix, Ark., he was the son of Oather Nelson and Areta Quick Nelson. Lonnie received a BA from Central Bible College in Pastoral Studies and a BA in History Education from John Brown University. He was a homebuilder, and he taught high school history and psychology. He also taught at the Siloam Springs Alternative School for 20 years. He pastored in the Assembly of God Church for 28 years and in the United Methodist Church for 30 years. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Martha Lack Nelson, and son, Michael Nelson. Survivors include his wife, Sue Whiteside Nelson of the home; two sons, Phillip Nelson and wife Josie of Chicago, Ill., and Dr. John Holcomb and wife Beth of Siloam Springs; three daughters, Marilyn Hoyt and husband Marshall of Siloam Springs, Sherie Fenno and husband John of Colcord, Okla., and Stacy Ladyman and husband George of Skillman, N.J.; daughter-in-law Jody Braley of Aurora, Colo.; 16 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2013, at First United Methodist Church, Siloam Springs. Visitation will be Monday, Sept. 16, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., at Wasson Funeral Home, Siloam Springs.
