Richard 'Dick' Frank Ashline

Richard "Dick" Frank Ashline, 79, of Bella Vista, Ark., passed away on Sept. 2, 2013, after a five month battle with cancer. He was born May 19, 1934, to Lynn and Verda Brookshier Ashline in Edgewood, Iowa. Richard graduated from Edgewood High School in 1952, and attended Gale Institute in Minneapolis to become a depot agent and telegrapher for the Chicago Northwestern Railroad. He was drafted into the United States Army in 1956. He served 26 months in Korea in the 8th Army Signal Corps. After being discharged, he was employed with the Community Savings Bank in Greeley, Iowa. Dick was a loyal and dedicated employee at the bank and the Farmers Coop Creamery in Greeley for 38 years. Dick and Mabel moved to Bella Vista, Ark., to retire in 1997. Dick married Mabel Adams at the United Methodist Church in Strawberry Point, Iowa, in 1958. They are the parents of two daughters. Dick enjoyed his family, and always looked forward to family reunions and family traveling vacations in the camper. Dick's favorite times were when he was in the midst of nature, hunting, fishing, cutting wood, hunting for mushrooms and watching the birds. Richard was a member of the United Methodist Church, American Legion, member of Fly Tyers and danced with the Kingsdale Squares. He enjoyed playing cards, bias bowling, square dancing, listening to Gospel, polka and country music, as well as traveling to visit the grandchildren. Dick was preceded in death by his parents, Lynn and Verda Ashline; and his only brother, Ronnie in 2012. Richard is survived by his wife, Mabel of 54 years; two daughters, Janet (Rick) Sedgwick of Bettendorf, Iowa, and Kay (Mark) Bernard of New Braunfels, Texas; grandchildren, Alex, Rachael, Kelsey and Parker Sedgwick, and Halee and Carsen Bernard. Also surviving are brothers- and sisters-in-laws, Judy Ashline of Guttenberg, Iowa, Harvey and Janice Adams of Lamont, Iowa, Louise and Don Haight of West Burlington, Iowa, and Donald and Mary Adams of Chicago, Ill.; and nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 12, 2013, at the First United Methodist Church, 20 Boyce Drive, Bella Vista, Ark. Arrangements are by the Bella Vista Funeral Home & Crematory, 2258 Forest Hills Blvd., Bella Vista, Ark. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Bella Vista Missions Fund or to the Nomad Shrine Club for the Children's Hospital.
