Loma B. Johnson Cates, 100, of Farmington passed away Saturday, Aug. 31, 2013, in Fayetteville. She was born Feb. 5, 1913, in Blackburn Community, Ark., the daughter of Alfred and Daisy Potter Johnson. She married Claude L. Cates in 1930, and was preceded in death by her husband in 1968 and her son, Delmar L. Cates in 2006. She also was preceded in death by two brothers, Garland and Oscar Johnson; and three sisters, Mabel, Gladys and Ruby Johnson. Loma loved gardening, flowers and cooking for anyone who was hungry. She retired form Levi-Straus after 29 years, then moved to Farmington after selling the family farm. Anyone who knew her loved her and she will be missed dearly. She is survived by two sons, Gerald and Loren Cates, both of Farmington; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 5, 2013, at Nelson-Berna Funeral Home. Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 6, 2013, at the chapel of Nelson-Berna Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Blackburn Cemetery.
