Vera Jean Harrison, a beloved member of the Mount Gaylor and Winslow communities, died peacefully in her home Oct. 23, 2013. Vera Jean was the only child of Charles Alvin and Vera Riddle, born Sept. 23, 1933. Vera Jean had an uncommon generosity, with a heart of love and kindness for hosts of friends and family. She loved her mountain home and her door was always open to visitors. The beautiful scenic mountain was the perfect setting for many outdoor weddings held on the grounds. Vera Jean attended the Winslow United Methodist Church, helping with the children's Bible school and many other church activities. She graduated from Mountainburg High School as class valedictorian. After attending the University of Arkansas, she began a long tenure as a teacher in Texas. Vera Jean traveled to all the distant countries that she could work into her retirement schedule, which was a testament to her interest and curiosity. Vera Jean loved life, laughter and good company. She faced her final illness as she strove to live her life: with intelligence, wit and grace. She will always be remembered for her loyalty and love of friends and family. Vera Jean Harrison is survived by her son, Kirk Sanders; a grandson, Devin Sanders; three stepsons, Dennis, Wayne and Ronnie Harrison; as well as many beloved cousins and friends. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Nov. 2, at 2 p.m. at the Winslow United Methodist Church, followed by a celebration at the home. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Winslow United Methodist Church. Arrangements by Epting Funeral Home of Fayetteville. Condolences: www.eptingfuneralhome.webs.com.
