Jack William Cavness

Jack William Cavness, 82, of Bella Vista, Ark., died Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2013, at Mercy Health in Rogers, Ark. He was born on Aug. 20, 1931, in Bentonville, Ark., to J.N. "Red" and Elva Cavness. Jack was a graduate of Bentonville High School where he was active in sports, with his father as the school coach. After graduating, he attended Arkansas Tech College for one year, then on the promise of a recruiter to be given a passing grade on all subjects he was taking, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he served three years in the Hospital Corps during the Korean War, including two overseas tours. In October 1951, he returned to Bentonville on leave to marry his high school sweetheart, Julia Harrison, who survives. They lived from Maryland to California during his Navy years before he served his overseas times on the U.S.S. Hospital Ship Repose. After his honorable discharge, Jack and Julia returned to Bentonville where he finished his college years, commuting to Fayetteville, as a faithful Razorback, where he graduated with a master's degree in agriculture. The next years were spent living and working in Arkansas and Missouri, and raising their two sons. After he retired, he and Julia moved from Kansas City, Mo., back to Arkansas, this time to Bella Vista. During his working years, Jack and his family enjoyed camping with their two sons across America and into Canada. He was so happy to be at the Cavness Family Reunion during Labor Day weekend with over 100 Cavness kin in attendance; most of whom still live in the Bentonville area. Jack was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Joe and Jim. Survivors include his wife, Julia; and his two dearly loved sons, Dr. Jack Harrison Cavness and his wife, Debbie, Jared William and his wife, Pamela; three grandchildren, Chad, Jeb and Jace; two brothers, Jerry Cavness and wife, Valerie, Jon Cavness and wife, Connie; one sister, Janie Sue Hall and husband, Bill. The family will greet friends at 2 p.m. followed by a memorial service at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 19, 2013, with Lynn Brown officiating at the Bella Vista Funeral Home Chapel, 2258 Forest Hills Blvd., Bella Vista, Ark. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of donors choice. Online condolences may be made at www.funeralmation.com.
