Robert Harlan

Robert Lloyd Harlan of Fayetteville, Ark., died Thursday, Oct. 10, 2013. He was born Dec. 24, 1932, in Little Rock, Ark. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alonzo Grady and Julia Brunette Loyd Harlan. He is survived by his wife, Valerie; two sons, David of New Orleans, La.; and Jon of Canton, Miss., along with his wife and son, Christi and Christopher. He is also survived by two sisters, June Pennington of Denton, Texas, and Martha Morgan of Evansville, Ind. Bobby graduated from Fayetteville High School in 1951 and from the University of Arkansas in 1956, where he was a member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity and a Razorback cheerleader. He served as a pilot in the United States Air Force and the Arkansas Air National Guard. In 1998, he retired from the Northwest Arkansas Regional Planning Commission after 31 years as a regional planner. Bobby was a member of First United Presbyterian Church where he served as an elder, a Stephen Minister, and a Sunday school teacher. He was a member of the Fayetteville Evening Lions Club; a volunteer for C.E.O. and the Wednesday crew of Habitat for Humanity; a previous Boy Scout leader of Troop 77; a member of the Experimental Aircraft Association; and a member of the group that met at Rick's Bakery every morning for more than 20 years. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Habitat for Humanity, P.O. Box 1863, Fayetteville, AR 72702; Fayetteville Animal Shelter, 1640 S. Armstrong, Fayetteville, AR 72701; the Salvation Army, P.O. Box 696, Fayetteville, AR 72702; or the First United Presbyterian Church, 695 Calvin Street, Fayetteville, AR 72703. There will be a memorial service at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 15, at the First United Presbyterian Church. Arrangements are under the direction of Moore's Chapel.
