Allen Phillip Stoeckel

Allen Phillip Stoeckel, 79, of West Fork passed away Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2013, at his home after a brief illness. He was born Aug. 17, 1934, in Chicago, Ill., the son of Max and Lena Nelson Stoeckel. He grew up in Des Plaines, Ill., and after his high school graduation, Allen enlisted in the United States Navy and served for 24 years as a proud Navy Seabee. After he was deployed to Africa during the Korean Conflict, served two tours in Vietnam, and at the time of his discharge he held five Good Conduct Medals, a Navy Unit Commendation award, Republic of Vietnam Meritorious Unit Citation, Civil Action Medal, First Class Color, with Palm; two Navy Achiecvement medals and RVN Gallantry Cross; his last and highest rank was Master Chief Constructionman with the Seabees. After his retirement in the Navy, he worked for Shakespeare, city of Springdale, United Technologies and Wal-Mart. Survivors include his wife of 27 years, Mary Sue (Susie) Stoeckel of the home; his son by marriage, John Ashley Capwell and wife, Ashley, and their children, Jacquelin Mary-Alexis and John Ryan Alexander Capwell, all of Fayetteville; his five children, Jo Ellen, Cheryl, Nancy, Edward and Allen; several other grandchildren. Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2013, at the Fayetteville National Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 14, 2013, at Beard's Funeral Chapel.
