Frank O. Dann

Frank O. Dann, 74, of Goshen passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2013, at his home. He was born March 8, 1939, in Elmira, N.Y., to Gerald and Marion Brown Dann. He was preceded in death by parents; son, Curtis Dann; and a brother, Fred Dann. All that met him found his sweet nature and good manners very appealing. An adult friend of the family nicknamed him "Fritzie" for his blonde curly hair. I remember when we were children on the farm raised on the Ridge Road between Odessa and Horseheads, N.Y., Frank emerging from under the hay bailer that was covered with canvas in the summer sun, all sweaty and covered with grease, proudly announcing that he had just finished greasing the bailer after watching my father do the same preparing for work in the field. It was the cutest, most hysterically, funny, sincere contribution that I have ever seen. His kindness and caring were seen when out sledding on a winter day. I crashed in a ditch and knocked myself daft; he helped me to my feet and by the hand led me up the hill back home to the farm. I wasn't really sure where I was and it took me some time to recover. I will remember him now as I do in the springtime of our childhood when all was green and we lived in the warm glow of loving parents. I remember a terrible incident when our uncle was killed in the woods; Frank was riding on the tractor with him. The tractor overturned pinning Frank to the ground under the gas tank and my uncle died of his injuries from the overturned tractor. Frank was extricated from where he was pinned, slightly bruised, but recovered very nicely. I wish I had known what his feelings really were. Another important memory is of the table that he crafted from wood and sent me for my 60th birthday. A small wooden box for my treasures, it had butterfly tendons and inlaid decorative borders. Survivors include two daughters, Lara Schuchart of Greer, S.C., and Gina Corday of Bermuda; significant other for 15 years, Mary Dillard of the home; 16 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several other family members and friends. A memorial gathering will be held at the home of Frank Dann and Mary Dillard on Saturday, Oct. 12, at 1 p.m. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Beard's Funeral Chapel.
