Margaret Dodd Latture

Margaret Dodd Latture, 95 years old, passed away on Sept. 26, 2013, at the Gardens at Arkanshire. She was born April 23, 1918, in Haskell, Okla., to Grace and John McLemore. Mrs. Latture was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters; her first husband, Nelson Edward Dodd; and their son, Douglas McLemore Dodd; and her second husband, James Paul Latture Sr. She is survived by her daughter, Rebecca Ellen Dodd Dearien; four grandchildren, Charles Douglas Dearien, Carlyn Delise Dearien, Christopher Daniel Dearien and Cayce Dearien Wallus; and five great-grandchildren, Jordyn, Ryan and Austin Schmitt, Noah Burgin and Ceara Wallus; one stepson, James Paul Latture Jr. and wife, Pam; and two step-grandchildren. She received her B.S. Ed. degree in 1939, and in later years received a degree in library science, both from the University of Arkansas. She was a member of the Springdale School faculty and was the librarian at Elmdale School for many years. She also volunteered at the Springdale Public Library. When she married Mr. Latture, she lived in Fort Smith, Ark., for 15 years, where she made many good friends and was very active. She was a member of the Bonneville House Association board, the Fort Smith Art Center auxiliary, Sparks Hospital Women's board, Friends of the Library board, and enjoyed her bridge club at Hardscrabble Country Club. After Paul's death, she returned to Springdale. Mrs. Latture was an active member of the First United Methodist Church and enjoyed the various opportunities offered. She was chairman of the church library for several years and served on the education committee. She also was a longtime volunteer at the Bread of Life facility. She attended many Bible study classes and other classes the church offered. Mrs. Latture also volunteered at the Jones Center for Families from its opening in 1997 to 2011, the Arts Center of the Ozarks and the Arkansas Support Network. She was a member of Chapter G, PEO Sisterhood and Laureate Lambda Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi. Funeral services will be Friday, Oct. 4, 2013, at 2 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Springdale, with the Rev. Judy Van Hoose officiating.
