The best news that ever came to mankind, came from a cemetery: "Why do you seek the living among the dead? He is not here, for He is risen, even as He said." (Luke 24:5-6) Ruth Urban went to be with her Lord on Sept. 23, 2013, and she is more alive today than she ever was! She was born in Moline, Ill., on March 28, 1923. She received her education at Rock Island Business College, Illinois, and Northwestern College, Minnesota. Together with her husband, George, she served faithfully five Baptist churches in New England and Philadelphia. She possessed great "relational" gifts, which she used in many different settings: teaching, counseling, caring for polio patients, initiating parties at State hospital, delivering inspirational talks, etc. Professionally, she served as customer relations clerk, credit manager, head librarian and administrative assistant in the management department of Temple University's School of Business. Since retirement, she has enjoyed five years of study in the Fine Arts Department (painting) of the University of Arkansas. But what she has enjoyed most is her involvement in the "Second Mile" ministries of U.B.C. as a counselor. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60-plus years, George on Oct. 18, 2012. Survivors include two children, Jennifer Lynn Hager of Fayetteville, and Kevin Esmont Urban and his wife, Mary, of Oregon. Ruth had special joy in their five grandchildren, Joshua and Zachary Hager, and Casey and Jacob Urban. A granddaughter, Rebecca (Hager) Walker and her husband, Greg, from Farmington, Ark., are the parents of George and Ruth's great-granddaughters, Mia and Kate, and great-grandson, Gavin. Also surviving is a sister-in-law, Ruth Anderson. A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 3, 2013, at Fairview Memorial Gardens, under the direction of Moore's Chapel. Dr. H.D. McCarty will be officiating. The family has requested that memorials be directed to Restoration Ministries Inc., 2215 Little Flock Drive, Rogers, AR 72756.
