Roger Cosford Speck was born to Freeman and Mable Speck in Detroit, Mich., on Dec. 13, 1928. The Lord took him home at the age of 84 on Nov. 3, 2013, in Wilmington, N.C. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Virginia Speck; and his wife, Bonnie E. Tisdale Garroutte Speck. He was the father to six sons, Steven, Ronald, Gary, Michael (who preceded him in death), Donald and Jeffrey; and one stepdaughter, Bonnie Linnet Garroutte Tournear. He was a grandfather to Melissa, Sarah, Roger William, Alex, Jennifer, Jacob, Chucky, Michelle, Jeffrey, Stephanie, Juliana and JC. He was a great-grandfather, also. In his younger years, Roger served his country in the Coast Guard and was a practicing chiropractor. After having a family, he enjoyed time with them on the farm and sailing for months at a time. What a man to travel on a sailboat to Canada with his wife, Virginia, six boys, and a Saint Bernard. He spent many years working on boats and remodeling older homes. Later in life, he enjoyed farming with his wife, Bonnie, his Border collies, and two grandchildren, Juliana and JC. He enjoyed watching a good Western while eating Hershey chocolate bars, peanuts, licorice, apple pie or chocolate cake. He often shared stories of his childhood and quoted nursery rhymes. His motto was, "Get the money!" Roger was a member of the Northeast Baptist Church of Fayetteville and enjoyed singing in the choir. He will be missed by several loved ones and friends. There will be a memorial service to honor Roger Cosford Speck (Grampy/Grandpa) on Nov. 30, 2013, at 2 p.m. at the Northeast Baptist Church in Fayetteville, Ark.
