Joe Collens Tate

Joe Collens Tate, age 77, of Seligman, Mo., passed away on Friday, Nov. 22, 2013, at his home surrounded by his family and friends. Joe was born in Osage, Ark., on July 13, 1936, the son of Wilburn J. and Minnie I. (Phillips) Tate. Joe attended school at Golden, Mo., and Cassville, Mo. On Nov. 21, 1958, he was united in marriage to Norma I. Pippin in Cassville, Mo., who survives. He lived in Kansas City, Mo., and worked at Fisher Body in Leeds, Mo. After becoming disabled, he moved his family back to Seligman to make their home. Joe owned the DX station in Seligman, and helped out with the Seligman Boxing Club. He was a member and trustee for the Rock Springs Church in Seligman, where he drove the church van. Joe loved spending time with his family, camping, hunting and working on vehicles. He endured many hours spent with loud kids, which he loved every minute of. Additional survivors include two sons, J.C. Tate and his wife Cathy, and Johnny Tate and his wife Kristy; two daughters, Glenda Leachman and her husband Jeff, and Sheila Black and her husband Rod all of Seligman; four brothers, Melvin Tate and his wife Marie, of Tracy, California, Herbert Tate, of Rogers, Arkansas, Edward Tate and his wife Shirley, of Seligman, Missouri, and Jerry Tate, of Holden, Missouri; two sisters, Mary Periman and her husband JB, of Kingsville, Missouri, and Beverly Ball, Eagle Rock, Missouri; fourteen grandchildren, Michelle, Stacie, Ashley, Jeremy, Brittany, Patsy, Jamie, Gary, Kayla, Doniel, Ashley, Chance, Carley, and Ryan; five great-grandchildren; and many more that he considered his own. In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by four brothers, Floyd Tate, Troy Tate, James Tate, and Eugene Tate; and one sister Dorothy Periman. The family will receive friends today, Nov. 25, 2013, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the White Funeral Home and Crematory, Cassville, Mo. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2013, at the funeral home with Pastor Perry Morgan and Pastor Glenn Erwin officiating. Burial will follow at Kings Cemetery in Seligman, Missouri. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association and entrusted to White Funeral Home, P.O. Box 890, Exeter, MO 65625.
