An expert seamstress, supreme cook and loving mother, Toshiko Murphy passed away in her sleep on Nov. 18, 2013, in Houston, Texas. She was 80 years old. Toshiko spent the majority of her life as a seamstress, wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed cooking for all that cared to sit down to the dinner table. She was always full of energy and enjoyed helping others. She had a love for reading her Japanese books and her Catholic faith. She was a dedicated, loving wife to the late James A. Murphy, caring for him until his passing from cancer. She was a strong and wise mother to her only son and a sweet, kind hearted grandmother to her two grandsons. Toshiko leaves to cherish her loving memory her son, Joe Murphy; two grandsons, Max and Thomas; a sister, Tadako; a brother, Hideo; her daughter-in-law, Magda Murphy; and a host of family and friends. A memorial service will be held at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 23, 2013, at the Schmidt Funeral Home Chapel in Katy, Texas, with Deacon Leonard Broussard officiating.
