Alexander Wiegel

Alexander Wiegel, 98, of Bella Vista, Ark., passed away Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2013, at Concordia Health & Rehab, Bella Vista, Ark. He was born Oct. 3, 1915, in Chicago, Ill., to David and Amalia Wiegel, immigrants from Russia. He was the second of four sons. He and his brothers David, Henry and Fredrick, grew up in Maywood, Ill., and attended Proviso East High School. After graduation, Alex joined the U.S. Army and served during WWII in the Far East. He was a proud member of the China-Burma-India Veterans Association. After the war, he and his wife, Elnor, moved to Oak Park, Ill., where they raised their daughter, Eileen. Alex and Elnor spent their retirement years in Texas, moving to be close to Eileen, who was living and working in Houston. While there, they developed close and lasting friendships with Ron and Maria Koen and Dan and Mary Bierman. Both Elnor and Eileen, as well as brothers, David and Henry, have preceded Alex in death. He is survived by his kid brother, Fred; nieces, Kris Chipps, Donna Wiegel, Kathy Wiegel; and nephew, William Wiegel; as well as his good and faithful dog, Roxie. A memorial prayer service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 4, 2013, at the Bella Vista Funeral Home chapel, with Pastor Darrel Johnson of the United Lutheran Church of Bella Vista presiding.
