Melba C. Allred, 74, of Fayetteville passed away Friday, March 22, 2013, at Willard Walker Hospice Home. She was born July 2, 1938, in Japton, Ark., to Alfred and Bobbie McConnell. She worked 18 years at the University of Arkansas and volunteered 25 years at the University Baptist Church "Second Season." She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Clyde McConnell; and sister, Carolyn Dickard. Survivors include her husband of 58 years, Ray Allred of the home; four daughters, Joy Powell and husband, James, of West Fork, Janet Houghland, Patty Blood and husband, Jim, and Liz Eiland and husband, Danny, all of Fayetteville; two sons, Bobby Allred of Prairie Grove and Billy Allred of Greenland; two brothers, Don McConnell of Witter, Ark., and Jimmy McConnell of Forum, Ark.; two sisters, Bonnie Stout and Bessie McConnell, both of Fayetteville; 14 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and many friends. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 26, 2013, at Beard's Funeral Chapel. Graveside service will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 27, 2013, with Pastor Wally Vanderlip officiating. Burial will be at Zion Cemetery under the direction of Beard's Funeral Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family would like memorials to be made to Willard Walker Hospice Home, 325 N. Longview, Fayetteville, AR 72703.
