Rayburn Wormington

Rayburn Wormington was born Aug. 24, 1933, to Walter and Cora (Terry) Wormington in Purdy, Mo. He was a lifelong resident of Barry County, Mo., in the Purdy area. He graduated from Purdy High School, where he was active in FFA and the high school orchestra. He was also a charter member of the FFA at Purdy Schools and strongly supported the program and his beloved "Mr. Estes." He was a dairy, beef and grain farmer until ill health forced him to retire. He was saved and baptized at an early age. He was a longtime member of First Baptist Church, Purdy, Mo., where he served years as an ordained deacon. He was secretary to the board of deacons for many years. He also served as Sunday School superintendent, was on the finance board, benevolence committee and various other places of service. He married Lorena Hukriede on Dec. 11, 1954, and she preceded him in death on March 5, 1981. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Cora (Terry) Wormington; two brothers, Ermol Wormington and Elburn Wormington. He married Kathy Cullers on March 7, 1985, and she survives. He is also survived by one son, Denny Wormington and his wife, Patty, of Corrales, N.M.; daughter, Debra Ferrell of Santa Fe, N.M., daughter, Debra Ferrell of Santa Fe, N.M., and daughter, Dana Creek and husband, Dave, of Springdale, Ark., Kip Cullers and wife, Michelle, of Purdy, Courtney Cullers and wife, Kelly, of Aurora; six grandsons, Nathan Cantrell, Aaron Creek, Tyler Cullers, Dylan Cullers, Noah Bartkoski and Naaman Cullers; four granddaughters, Rachel Wormington, Madison Cantrell, Ashley Creek and Nerissa Cullers; several nieces and nephews; a host of other family and friends. Visitation will be at Bennett-Wormington Funeral Home in Monett, Mo., from 6 to 8 p.m. March 6. Private burial services will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Purdy Cemetery Association, in care of the Bennett-Wormington Funeral Home at Monett, Mo. 65708.
