Ruth Ella Blackshire Kinsey, 91, of Fayetteville died March 2, 2013, at the Fayetteville Veteran's Home. Ruth was born Jan. 19, 1922, in Bellefonte, Ark., the daughter of Plaut Leslie and Ella M. Dickson Blackshire. She was preceded in death by her husband, Laurel Dwight Kinsey. Ruth was a graduate of Bellefonte High School, 1939, and the University of Arkansas with a B.A. in philosophy and psychology, followed by an M.A. in psychology, 1950. Ruth retired in 1984 after teaching school in Springdale, Ark., for over 18 years at Central and Tyson Elementary schools. She had previously taught in Indiana and New York for many years. In addition, Ruth was a corporal in the U.S. Marine Corps assigned to Arlington, Va., during WWII, with an honorable discharge on June 6, 1946. She spent her retirement years playing golf and enjoying numerous international vacation trips. She also served as a past president of the Washington County Retired Teachers Association and was a member of the American Association of University Women. She is survived by a daughter, Mary K. Oliver of Florida; two grandsons, Tyler B. Oliver of Florida, Jerry C. Oliver Jr. of North Carolina; and two great-granddaughters; a sister, Mary Blackshire Bullock of Fayetteville; a brother, John C. Blackshire and his wife, Helen, of Fayetteville; and 10 nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Thursday, March 7, 2013, at Moore's Chapel in Fayetteville.
