David Edgar Turner, 71, of Elkins passed away Sunday, March 3, 2013, at his home. He was born Nov. 11, 1941, in Durham, the son of Lynn and Violet Turner. He graduated from Elkins High School and retired from Washington County Road Department as a heavy equipment operator and supervisor after 36 years of service. After his retirement, he enjoyed his role as grandparent and working on his farm while helping family, friends and neighbors when anyone was in need of his help. Also, he was actively involved in his church. David was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Troy Turner. Survivors include his wife, Alma Faye Dunaway Turner, to whom he married Sept. 29, 1960; daughters, Brenda Johnson and husband, Stan of Fayetteville and Mary Harrelson and husband, Jim of Colorado Springs, Colo.; grandchildren, David Harrelson of Elkins, Amanda Mayes of Huntsville, Ashley Bryant of Colorado Springs and Adam Gabbard of Fayetteville; six great-grandchildren, Will Harrelson, Haley Bryant, Mackenzie Bryant, Kent Mayes, Grace Mayes and Amos Mayes; three sisters, Lois Fultz of Fayetteville and Tressie Fultz and husband, Larry of Fayetteville and Linda Johnson and husband, Mike of Springdale; and many other family and friends. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 6, 2013, at Crystal Hills Family Fellowship Church in Elkins with the Rev. Jasper Hankins and David Mashburn officiating. Burial will be in Whitehouse Cemetery. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, March 5, 2013, at Beard's Funeral Chapel Memorials may be made to Crystal Hills Family Fellowship Building Fund.
