Lyle Thomas Trotter

Lyle Thomas Trotter, 71, a lifelong resident of Rogers passed away peacefully on the morning of Feb. 27, 2013, at the Circle of Life Hospice in Bentonville. He was born in Rogers on the day Pearl Harbor was bombed, Dec. 7, 1941, to George Paul Trotter and Caroline Frances (Konrad) Trotter. He was a Gulf War veteran, whose father's service in the U.S. Navy during World War II inspired him to serve as well, first as a member of the regular Army and later as an Arkansas National Guardsman with the 142nd Field Artillery's A Battery. A Christian since his early teens, Lyle loved studying the Bible and was a long-time member of Sunnyside Baptist Church in Rogers. During the latter years of his life, he became a faithful viewer of Pastor Dale Thompson's weekly televised sermons from Fort Smith. Illness led to his retirement from Wal-Mart after 30 years of employment, and, though unwell, he enjoyed helping with small home improvement projects for a time and doing sedentary hobbies, such as collecting coins and writing in his journal. He was an avid reader, especially of biographies, political commentaries, American history and spy novels. His viewing preferences ranged from war movies, John Wayne Westerns and police dramas to PBS's Masterpiece Theatre and Mystery. He loved most sports, especially college football, basketball and baseball. A solid Razorback fan, he also favored certain pros, namely the St. Louis Cardinals and the Washington Redskins. He is preceded in death by his parents; two half-brothers who died as children; and another half-brother, Donald Jagger. He is survived by his wife, Renay of the home; his daughter, Sarah Elisabeth of Rogers; his mother-in-law, Dorothy Hegwood of War Eagle; his half-brother, Pat Jagger, and sister-in-law, Leenoria, of Humble, Texas; his brother-in-law, Howard Faris, and sister-in-law, Ann, of New Market, Va.; his sister-in-law, Letricia Thomas, and brother-in-law, Jerry, of War Eagle; a former brother-in-law, Dr. Leroy Jeske, and sister-in-law, Connie, of Broken Arrow, Okla.; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 2, at 3 p.m. at Callison-Lough Funeral Home Chapel in Bentonville. Visitation will precede Saturday's service from 2 to 3 p.m. at Callison-Lough Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will be in Bland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or to Circle of Life Hospice Legacy Village in Bentonville.
