Joyce Ann Verucchi

Joyce Ann Verucchi, 78, of Fort Smith, Ark., died Thursday, July 11, 2013. She was born Nov. 26, 1934, in Booneville, Ark., to Hoyt and Joanna (Dozier) Copeland. She was a former member of St. Raphael's Catholic Church. She graduated from Fort Smith High School and graduated from St. Edward's School of Nursing as a Registered Nurse. Many might remember her while she worked for Dr. James Greenhaw in Springdale as his nurse for several years. Joyce married the love of her life Virgil Verucchi Jr. on Nov. 26, 1955, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Tontitown, Ark. She enjoyed bowling, bingo and trips to the casino. She loved her family and never failed to provide for them. She will be missed. Joyce was preceded in death by her husband Virgil who died at the young age of 39 in 1968, after 13 years of marriage, and her sister, Julia (Sissy) Countryman. She is survived by her sons, Danny Verucchi of Fort Smith, Mike Verucchi and wife Debbie of Springdale, and daughter Shelly Nicodin of Arlington, Texas. She also had six grandchildren, Vincent and Maggie Verucchi, Ashley Grawe, David and Nick Nicodin, Kylee Thomas and one great-grandson, Ryan Grawe and several nieces and nephews, especially Cathy Countryman Cook, who remained close to her Aunt Joyce. Visitation will be Monday, July 15, 2013, from 4 to 6 p.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Tontitown, with a rosary immediately following. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, July 16, 2013, at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church with Father Greg Hart officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.
