Sandra Sue Smith Garner passed this life on July 3, 2013 in Fort Smith, Arkansas. Sandy was preceded in death by her parents, Okla Homer and Creo Belle Smith, and her husband, Charles R. Garner. Sandy graduated from The Hockaday School in Dallas, Texas and The University of Arkansas where she was a member of the Pi Beta Phi Sorority. She attended graduate school at Georgetown University and later began her career work in editorial journalism at the National Geographic Society in Washington, D.C. She continued her journalism career in San Francisco with the National Pharmaceutical Society before returning to Fort Smith to join the Family Business. Sandy is survived by her sons, Justin Chip Garner and his wife Rachel of Fort Smith, Ark.; her stepson, Bud Garner and his wife Sandy of Fort Smith, Ark.; step-grandchildren, Ashley and Daniel Boehning, Charles, Bryan, and Evan Garner; step-great-grandchildren, Cassidy, Chase, Nickolas, Paige, and Jameson Garner; one sister, Lynn Smith of Southlake, Texas; one brother, Okla Bennett Smith and his wife Elinor of Fort Smith; nephews, Okla D. Smith of Fort Smith and Oklahomer F. Smith and his wife Zoe of Fort Smith; nieces, Christy Tuggle and her husband Paul of Grapevine, TX and Kelly Fisher and her husband, Paul of Maumelle, Ark.; grandnephews, Okla Bennett Smith II and Sutton Smith of Fort Smith; grandniece Lexie Tuggle of Grapevine, Texas. The family is grateful to Sandy's daughter-in-law, Rachel, for all the compassionate, loving care she has provided to Sandy over the last seven years. Visitation will be held at Edwards Funeral Home from 3-5 p.m. on Sunday, July 7, 2013. Pallbearers will be Eddie Christian, Bud Garner, Pat Moore, Paul Langston, Tom Ahlert, and Chris Polychron. Funeral will be held Monday, July 8, 2013 at 10 a.m. in Roebuck Chapel at First United Methodist Church, officiated by Reverend Russ Tyler. Burial will follow at the U.S. National Cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Fort Smith Boys and Girls Club Charitable Foundation Trust or to First United Methodist Church in Fort Smith.
