Sue Patton Brand

Mrs. Sue Patton Brand, of Wynne, Ark., formerly of Harrisburg, departed this life Tuesday, July 2, 2013, at the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House in Jonesboro, at the age of 84. She was born Feb. 21, 1929, in Hickory Ridge, Ark., the daughter of Earl Patton and Cozette Vance Patton. Sue was a member of the first nursing class at the East Arkansas Community College in Forrest City and was a nurse at the Cross County Hospital in Wynne and for Burks, Beaton and Crain for many years. She started in April, 1989, at the Crowley's Ridge Educational Cooperative as a Teacher Center Clerk and retired from there at the age of 80. She loved crafting and family reunions. She enjoyed bird watching and enjoyed collecting, especially toys from Sonic. She was famous for her chicken and dressing and loved her pets. She was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Cozette Patton; her first husband, Paul Urfer in 1962; her second husband, Claude Brand in 1985; three sisters; and one brother. She is survived by one son, Earl Urfer and his wife, Kim of Fayetteville, Ark.; one daughter, Paula Johnson and her husband, Dennis, of Cherry Valley; two brothers; four grandchildren, including Trevor Urfer and Max Urfer, both of Fayetteville; three great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Graveside services have been set for 3 p.m. Saturday, July 6, 2013, in Harrisburg Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Gregg-Weston Funeral Home of Harrisburg. Friends may visit at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday. Those wishing to send memorials are asked to consider St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis.
