Lowell M. 'Sonny' Garretson

Lowell M. Garretson, "Sonny," 70, of Fayetteville, passed away in his home with the care of his wife, family and hospice on Friday, Jan. 25, 2013. Lowell was born on July 17, 1942, in Fort Smith, Ark., the son of Henry Lowell Garretson and Geneva (Smith) Garretson. He married Sharon L. (Jackson) Garretson, his wife of 49 years and they were inseparable. Lowell was a Vietnam veteran and a brick mason by trade and loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He encountered many of friends. He was preceded in death by one sister, Gayle; and one grandchild, Avery Garretson. Survivors include his children, Randy A. Garretson of Lafayette, Ind.; Melissa D. (Garretson) Pickering of Tipton, Ind., and Russell Garretson of Connersville, Ind. He will be missed by his grandchildren, Tiffani, Morgan, Nicole, Cali, Kenneth, Lowell and four great-grandchildren. Surviving him are five brothers, Calvin, Charlie Dwayne, Dwight and Jeff, and one sister, Brenda, all of Arkansas. No service was held and a private viewing only was requested by the deceased. The family of "Sonny" Garretson would like to thank the many who have prayed over him, prayed for the family and for those whose lives have touched both our hearts and his. Much gratitude to John Baker, friend; the ladies of the oncology department at the VA Hospital; the Circle of Life team who cared for the family and "Sonny" - a huge thank you for calming the waters and caring for him with compassion; and to his friends of many.
