Maria Sullivan, 82, Junction City, Kan., passed away Jan. 20, 2013, at the Circle of Life Hospice in Springdale, Ark. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, 2013, with Father Al Brungardt officiating at the Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel, 203 N. Washington Street, Junction City, Kan. Burial will take place at Arlington National Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday, Jan. 25, 2013, at the Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel from 6 to 8 p.m. with rosary at 7:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions have been designated to the St. Xavier Catholic Church, P.O. Box 399, Junction City, KS 66441; Circle of Life Hospice, 901 Jones Road, Springdale, AR 72762; and the JCHS Bowling Team, c/o Geary Community Schools Foundation, 123 N. Eisenhower Drive, Junction City, KS 66441. Maria was born Aug. 10, 1930, in Habischried, Germany, to Lorenz and Katerina Pfeffer; she was one of 12 brothers and sisters. Maria was a homemaker, and in years past, was a volunteer for the American Legion and was a former member of the Junction City Monday Night Mixed Bowling League, where she served as secretary. Maria enjoyed watching her boys play sports, and she enjoyed playing cards, bowling, gardening, and cheering for the Denver Broncos and the KU Jayhawks Basketball team. She is survived by six sons, Bob Strahley (Jenny) of Junction City, Kan., Dave Strahley of Supply, N.C., Don Strahley (Diane Henry) of Topeka, Kan., Rick Strahley of Port Orange, Fla., Michael Sullivan (Theresa) of Easton, Md., Erich Sullivan (Melanie) of Rogers, Ark.; stepson, John Sullivan (Susan) of Willow Springs, N.C.; stepdaughter, Nancy Maria Sullivan Meyer of Newark, Del.; 18 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; and two husbands, George W. Strahley and Harry F. Sullivan; and her stepdaughter, Donna Jean Sullivan DiRico.
