Sister Melanie Hester

Sister Melanie Hester, age 58, of Winslow, Ark., died Monday, Jan. 14, 2013, in Winslow. She was born Oct. 21, 1954, in Prairie Grove, Ark., to Louis and Dell King Hester. She was a graduate of Loyola University in Chicago; she was the youngest of five daughters. She was a Catholic nun, serving on nursing missions in Brazil and was founder and director of the Women's Refugee Shelter in Johannesburg, South Africa, and was a registered nurse, who previously worked at Washington Regional Hospital in Fayetteville. She is survived by her mother, Dell Hester of Winslow; four sisters, Rosetta Jane Landelius, Nancy Raye Townsend, Janice Amelia Pemberton and Arminta Kaye Dozier; eight brothers, Lloyd Allen Hester, Otis Charles Hester, Louis Monroe Hester, Louis Otis Hester, Lucas Hester, Landis Hester, Lain Hester and Lyndal Hester; and numerous nieces and nephews. Rosary service will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Fayetteville. Funeral Mass will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Saint Joseph Catholic Church with burial to follow at Brentwood Cemetery in Brentwood.
