Bobbye L. Harmon

Bobbye L. Harmon, 91, of Corning passed away Jan. 9, 2013 at Hospice of the Ozarks in Mountain Home. Born Nov. 18, 1921 in Bernie, Mo., Mrs. Harmon worked at the Corning Post Office from 1944, until retirement on March 11, 1984. She was a faithful member of the Corning First United Methodist Church, serving on numerous committees and special projects including the Methodist Prayer Shawl Ministry. Bobbye enjoyed camping and fishing with Kenneth, especially a six week motor home trip to Alaska after retirement. After Kenneth's death, she, her sister, and niece traveled the United States and took several cruises. Some of her favorite times were spent with her family at their family home on the White River. She loved working in the yard and always had beautiful jonquils and tulips at her home on First Street in Corning. In May 1941, she was united in marriage to Kenneth Harmon who was employed for 40 years at Clay County Electric Cooperative in Corning. He preceded her in death on August 11, 1996. Survivors include one son, Todd W. (Beth Allen) Harmon of Cotter; one sister Dorris I. Smith Carter of Hardy; daughter-in-law Jenny Mack Harmon of Hindsville; four grandchildren, Lee Harmon and John Harmon both of Los Angeles, Calif., Leslie (Aaron) Harmon Smith and Emily (Chris) Harmon Lawrenz both of Little Rock; three great grandchildren Kate Harmon Hanney of Los Angeles, Calif., Breckin Harmon Lawrenz and Christian M. Lawrenz both of Little Rock; two nephews, Johnny Carter of Cherokee Village and Allen Carter of Benton; and one niece Eliane Carter Bostian of Bixby, Okla. She was also preceded in death by sons Dr. Harry McKinley Harmon and Gerald Harmon; and parents William and Anna (Alstadt) Smith. Visitation will be Sunday beginning at 1 p.m. at First united Methodist Church in Corning. Funeral service will follow at the church at 2 p.m. with Rev. Ann Ferris officiating under the direction of Ermert Funeral Home. Burial will be in Corning Cemetery.
