Mary Charlene Webb

Mary Charlene (Heller) Webb, 95, died Friday, Jan. 4, 2013, at Mercy Hospital in Rogers, Ark. The daughter of Charles Herman and Kate Young Heller, she was born March 31, 1917, in Croweburg (Mulberry, northeast of Girard), Kan. Charlene graduated from Girard High School and attended Kansas State College at Pittsburg, graduating with a bachelor of science degree in education May 29, 1940. On July 22, 1943, Charlene married Carl Webb from Galena, Kan. She taught at Crawford Community High School in Cherokee, Kan., and Baxter Springs High School in Baxter Springs, Kan., while Carl was in the Marines during World War II. From Baxter Springs, Carl and Charlene moved to Clearwater, Kan., where Charlene began teaching at Garden Plain High School. She was a member of both a state and local Kansas Teachers' Association, Delta Kappa Gamma Honorary Society for Women Teachers and the Wichita Administrators' Wives Club. While living in Wichita area, Charlene was also a member of the Riverlawn Christian Church, affiliated with the Red Cross, the Junior Red Cross and the cancer drives locally and in Baxter Springs. After retiring, Charlene and Carl moved to Rogers, Ark. She was a member of Rogers Christian Church and the Preceptor Alpha Theta Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. Survivors include four nephews, Jim McInturff, Wichita Falls, Texas, David Webb, Tulsa, Okla., Dan Webb, Tulsa, Okla., Kirby Webb, Tulsa, Okla.; and a niece, Judy Seifert, Kansas City, Mo. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2013, at Rogers Christian Church, with Pastor Jack Galbraith officiating. A visitation will be from 11 a.m until service time. Burial will be at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 10, 2013, at the National Cemetery in Fort Scott, Kan. Memorials may be made to the Rogers Christian Church, 2421 W. Oak St., Rogers, AR 72758.
