Donald Lee Kellams

A gathering of friends for Donald Lee Kellams of Lakeview, Ark., will be 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013, at Kirby and Family Funeral Home Chapel in Bull Shoals. Donald passed away Dec. 30, 2012, in Mountain Home, Ark., at the age of 83. He was born July 13, 1929, to Rupert and Maggie Kellams in Sterling, Kan. He graduated from Hutchinson High School and Hutchinson Community College. He joined the U.S. Naval Reserve in June of 1947 serving 23 years; and served three years and three months on active duty during the Korean conflict. He married Patricia Engler on Dec. 20, 1953, at Hutchinson, Kan., and worked as a salesman. Donald moved to Cotter, Ark., in August of 1967 and to Lakeview, Ark., in May of 1968. He was on the original Lakeview City Council for two terms and later served another two terms on the council. He was one of the originators of the Grover Township Fire Protection District that was formed in October of 1973 and has been associated in an administrative capacity with them for the last 39 years. He enjoyed fishing on the White River. Donald is survived by his wife of 59 years, Patricia Kellams of Lakeview, Ark.; three sons, Kurt (Julie), Kevin (Nanci) and Kyle (Laura) Kellams; five grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and one sister. Memorials may be made to the Grover Township Fire Protection District.
