Doris Elaine (Larson) Mentink

Doris Elaine (Larson) Mentink of Bella Vista, Ark., died peacefully on Sunday, Dec. 30, 2012, at Jamestown Nursing and Rehab in Rogers, Ark., surrounded by family. She was born on Dec. 21, 1931, in Osceola, Neb., to Gotfrid and Glenda (Johnson) Larson. She was baptized and confirmed at Calvary Lutheran Church of Swede Home in Polk County, Neb. Doris was raised on a farm west of Osceola, Neb., and graduated from Stromsburg High School in 1948. Doris married Wayne Mentink on Feb. 22, 1953. She held various bookkeeping and office positions. She also worked as a real estate agent in the Plattsmouth/Bellevue, Neb., area. Her experience in real estate led her to finance banking at SAC Federal Credit Union, where she retired as a loan officer. After retirement, Doris and Wayne moved to Bella Vista, Ark. She was an active member of Bella Vista Lutheran Church, where she served as treasurer and enjoyed Bible study groups. Doris also built a thriving Avon business throughout her retirement years. Doris was an avid reader and also enjoyed golfing and fishing. She looked forward to visits from her children and grandchildren and could not wait to show them off to her friends. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; infant sisters, Helen and Ramona Mae; infant brother, Gordon Ray; brothers, James and Larry; and grandson, Greg Van Pelt. Doris is survived by one son, Brian (Terri) Mentink of Lyons, Neb.; one daughter, Janis (Ron) Koranda of Mitchell, Neb.; two sisters, Mildred Chames of Lake Havasu City, Ariz., and Sue (Bob) Gabriel of Waverly, Neb.; and one brother, Don (Barb) Larson of Cheyenne, Wyo.; grandchildren, Taylor and Cassidy Mentink, Dr. Amanda Van Pelt, Caleb and Ethan Koranda; brother-and sister-in-law, Dr. S.J. and DeEtt Harless of Papillion, Neb.; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013, at Bella Vista Lutheran Church, 1990 Forest Hills Blvd., with Pastor Paul Hass officiating. Arrangements are by the Bella Vista Funeral Home & Crematory, 2258 Forest Hills Blvd., Bella Vista, Ark.
